20151206_180843Jojo turned 1 year old on December 7th!  We decided to celebrate with a homemade grain-free doggy cake.  It took a while to find an online recipe that I could feel good about giving our dogs.  I wanted it to be grain free, sugar free, and have limited ingredients- only what was necessary to make a delicious cake.

The recipe is Grain-Free Peanut Butter Apple Doggy Cake and it came from the website Spoonful of Sugar Free (love the site name!).  FOUR simple ingredients: egg, peanut butter, apple and baking powder.  Now baking powder is not something I would feed my dogs on a daily basis, but 1/2 tsp. in the cake is perfectly fine.

This recipe makes 1 individual serving, so I chose to double the recipe since I wanted a separate cake for each of our dogs.  I used all organic ingredients and the homemade peanut butter I make for the Eli & Jojo treats.  I baked it in 2 ramekins for 25 minutes, a little longer than the recipe stated.  I also made a simple frosting of equal parts cream cheese and peanut butter.  20151206_180843Jojo thought the frosting was the best part of the cake!  I do have to say it smelled delicious while it was baking.

If I make this again for Eli’s next birthday in April, I wouldn’t double the recipe.  Making just 1 serving like the recipe states and dividing that into smaller cupcake size portions would be enough.

You can see some more of the birthday party pictures including a few of Jojo’s older brother Eli on our facebook page.
