Just about everyone knows what a poodle looks like, with that trademark thick curly hair and air of distinction.  But how many know that the poodle is said to have human-like intelligence?

  • Poodles are highly trainable, learn fast and remember everything!  They are often described as a “thinking” dog.
  • They excel at performance sports like obedience, agility and hunting tests and are very eager to please.
  • Their attitude towards people is friendly, although they can remain politely reserved toward strangers.
  • Poodles are skilled readers of body language and your expressions, and they can often anticipate what you are going to do before you do it!
  • They are very sensitive dogs and prefer a peaceful home without conflict or too much loud activity.  They can become upset with loud noises and roughhousing.

1.  Poodles are the national dog of France.
2.  They come in three sizes: toy, miniature and standard.
3.  The word poodle comes from the German word “pudel” or “pudelin” which means splash in the water.
4.  They have hair and not fur.  Their coloring can be one of 11 solid colors or 17 double colors (a two-color combo)
5.  Poodles are the lightest shedding, most hypoallergenic of all coated breeds.
