National Puppy Day
National Puppy Day is a day to “celebrate the magic and unconditional love that puppies bring to our lives”.
It’s also a day to promote adoption from animal shelters, humane societies and rescue groups as well as to make the public aware of the horrors of puppy mills.
This special day was founded by Celebrity Pet & Home Lifestyle Expert and Author Colleen Paige in 2006.
Currently there still exist up to an estimated 10,000 puppy mills in the U.S. alone. Pet stores that sell designer puppies are the main reason that so many puppy mills exist. The mills would go out of business if people would stop buying puppies from these pet shops and if the public would convince the pet store owners to stop selling the puppies.
Colleen Paige suggests that the most successful way to accomplish this is by organizing rallies and peaceful demonstrations outside pet stores that sell puppies.
